The Rotaract Club of Pudu recently celebrated their 42nd Installation ceremony. President Chestal Chin along with her Board of Directors were installed on the 1st of August 2015 at Silka Hotel Cheras. With the theme “Pirates VS Cowboys”, the installation ceremony was a fun filled night with the crowd coming in all dressed up in their pirate or cowboy attires. Hospis Malaysia Volunteer Introduction Section
Members of the Rotaract Club of Pudu and
several interactors under the wing of the Rotary Club of Pudu attended a
volunteer introductory session at Hospis Malaysia on Saturday the 19th
of September. The objective of the session was to know of Hospis Malaysia’s
role and what palliative care is all about.
The briefing session was done by Dr Ednin
Hamzah, the medical director of Hospis Malaysia. Hospis Malaysia is a
non-profit organization that provides palliative care to patients diagnosed
with terminal illness. According to Dr Ednin, apart from medicine to treat the
underlying disease, something must be done to treat the emotional, social and
spiritual aspects of suffering from a terminal illness. This is where
palliative care comes in to improve patients’ quality of life. By providing
palliative care, patients are able to prepare for the end by making decisions
as well as receiving support from their own friends and family.
In addition to that, Hospis Malaysia is
also running a petition to gather support to establish palliative care units in
all hospitals in Malaysia. It is hoped that 10,000 signatures are achieved to
send in the petition.
The hospice requires volunteers for events
and also for certain patient care activities. To anyone who is interested,
kindly contact Hospis Malaysia at 03-9133 3936 or email them at info@hospismalaysia.org
for further details.

A Visit to Kidzania with the children of Epharatha Home
The Rotaract Club of Pudu kick started the new Rotary term of RY2014/2015 with it's first community service project of the term. The activity which was held on the 5th of July 2014 was to bring children from an orphanage to Kidzania. The main objective this meaningful event is to enlighten the minds of the children with ambitions which are on the outside world. The event was targeted encourage the children to have a goal to reach their ambition. The event was participated by 29 children from Epharatha Home and 15 volunteers that were made up of members of the Rotaract Club of Pudu and their guest.
The event kick started at 8.30am when the volunteers arrived at Epharatha Home to pick the children up. The children were excited along with the volunteers. The children were split into groups which were in charged by two volunteers each.
As everyone arrive at Kidzania, they were greeted by the Kidzania staff and registration is taken for each child and volunteer. Everyone was then escorted into Kidzania. The children were given some Kidzania money and they were taught to look for a job in Kidzania in order to make more money. The money can then be used by the children to purchase souvenirs before they leave Kidzania.
After a tiring "working day" for the children and volunteers, everyone departed Kidzania back to the orphanage. The children and volunteers both enjoyed themselves as the day ended with happiness and an eye opening experience for the children.
The Rotaract Club of Pudu would like to thank Kidzania for their kind assistance and sponsorship for the children on the meaningful day. The club would also like to thank all volunteers that have come along with the club members to make this activity a success.
